English Language Challenges

Hello! I really can’t believe I'm in my last year of English.

I like this subject at the university because I think I have learned a lot. I'm still not very secure about my knowledge and speaking but definitely it’s better after taking this class. At first I wasn’t very sure about taking this subject because my life was a mess and I was really stressed and demotivated with my career, but then I tried not to give up and make my best to pass it.

I also like using the blog because at first I wasn’t very convinced but now I think it’s useful because it helped me to order some of my ideas and also write about things that I like and I really love talking about myself, especially in a funny way to make people laugh. I used my blog from my first year of university and I was very nostalgic, it was interesting to watch my thoughts and expectations from that time, some of them were still the same and others changed a lot.    

I think I need to improve my formal use of the language because I'm still very coloquial and talk like people on TV shows. I don't have any plan yet but I promise I would change it. The videos that we record for the subject were very helpful because I notice my progress; the first one was terrible for me and the last I made it instantly! That made me so happy.

These days I'm using English very often. The only thing for what I always use it is to translate the words of some song that I liked, I also learn a lot doing it.

Summer Vacations

Hello, today I will write about a place I’m going to visit in my summer vacations.

With my dad and sister we have been talking about going to Valle del Elqui next year. I’m really excited because my last trip with my family was like six years ago and it wasn’t very nice because we weren’t very close. But now we are on the same line and very happy of planning together.

This trip isn’t a hundred percent sure but we hope it works. Our plans are going in our car and make some stops in the way to rest and eat, then stay in some hostel or apartment not very expensive. Then I’m not very sure about what places or attractions we are going to visit because I haven’t searched yet and learned much about it, but I would like to watch the sky because it’s one of the best cities in the world to do it. Maybe I would ask for advice to my classmates at the university because they have traveled together to this city.

We didn’t decide on a date yet, so after I would like to work to have some money and buy myself some stuff before the trip and on it.  I would like to buy some original ice cream from the zone and obviously try some pisco (alcohol) because it’s very famous and maybe buy some clothes.

 Another thing that makes me happy is that I love the heat so I would dress very comfortable and maybe swim in some river. 

My academy year was very difficult so I’m longing for some rest!

My favorite TV show

I really like watching TV, especially series. I’m a big fan of Netflix and I spend a lot of time using it, so it’s hard for me to choose my favorite program but one that I love is Say yes to the dress!  An original reality television series on TLC.

Basically, it’s about future brides who visit a store called Kleinfeld Bridal in the city of New York, Manhattan looking for the perfect dress to their weddings.  In every episode they show about three or four cases of women chasing their dresses and telling their love stories. Sometimes they are with their families or friends, almost never with their future husbands (because it’s bad luck!).

To find their dresses some workers from the store help them, they guide the future brides asking first about what they have in mind and trying to find a model that fits them and makes them look beautiful. Sometimes the bride instantly loves the first one or they never choose one, there are some cases that they are under a lot of pressure because the people  that are with them are making some rude comments but the team from the store tries to make them comfortable.

I like to watch this series because I really love bride dresses, I know a lot about shapes, forms, clothes, etcetera. One of my deep dreams is to be a wedding dress designer.

It’s funny because I do not love marriage; I just love the esthetical part but not the compromise haha.

Postgraduate Studies

As I mention in my last post, I would like to work in clinical care about sexuality so to be able to do it I should take a Master in sexology. The principal reason to do the course is that in social work topics about sexuality are not very discussed and deeply studied, so it's really necessary that I take a specialty because it’s a complex topic like as any other in social sciences. Most people think it doesn’t have much importance or it’s easy to learn but I think that they say it because sexuality is a tabu in our society and it’s seen in a negatively way.

I would like to study sexuality in all their dimensions from a transdisciplinary 

to a feminist perspective. It means that I would like to learn the most possible 

things about it in a way that respects human rights and freedom. 

Some topics that I would like to study are diversity, health care, sexual

 psychology, teaching methodologies of sexual education, etc. 

I would like to study it in Spain because it’s one of the countries where

 there’s a lot of investigation in this subject but if I couldn’t, I would like

 to study it here in Chile because Autonomy University has an agreement 

with the SpainUniversity of Almeria about sexology so they have a really

 good curriculum.

Finally, I would like to study it part time because I would like to work at the 

same time to pay for the course.
